ONEWORLD NOW! HOSTS FIRST ANNUAL COLLEGE FAIR

(Seattle, WA) OneWorld Now!, the after school global leadership program for mostly low-income high school youth, is hosting its first annual college fair at the University of Washington this weekend. Twenty-five college and university representatives from around the United States, including Harvard, Princeton and Duke will be coming to the college fair just to meet OneWorld Now! students. OneWorld Now! provides a unique and comprehensive after school global leadership program of world languages (Arabic and Chinese), leadership training, internships, study abroad (Morocco and China) and college preparation to Seattle high school youth.

Twenty-five top colleges and universities from all over the United States will be participating during the first day of the OneWorld college fair. On the second day, local and national leaders will speak to OneWorld high school seniors about the A-Z’s of getting into college, including financial aid, SAT preparation, college essay support, and debunking myths about college acceptance and access. OneWorld college fair organizer Christie Verdadero says “We found that while students were getting amazing skills in leadership and foreign languages through OneWorld Now!, they were often getting little or no advice regarding college. We trust this college fair and workshop will open up new options for our students’ futures!”

Thanks to generous grants this year from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation and the Freeman Foundation, OneWorld Now! was able to significantly expand its program and is currently serving 150 students from five Seattle public high schools

OneWorld Now! was recently recognized as “one of the nation’s most innovative after school programs”. OneWorld Now! is a comprehensive after school program dedicated to supporting the next generation of global leaders. OneWorld Now! is a project of the Tides Center.
