Internship Opportunities

OneWorld Now! is seeking responsible and committed young adults with a passion for working with minority youth, international educational opportunities, and a growing non-profit organization. We offer a variety of internship opportunities throughout the year and seek to provide a flexible, challenging and rewarding environment where our interns flourish personally and professionally. Although internships are unpaid we assist in securing academic credit. We are currently recruiting interns on a rolling basis for the 2008–2009 Academic Year and summer 2008. Administrative Program Assistant
The administrative assistant would support the Student Services Manager, Leadership Program Manager and Operations Manager positions. They would support alumni tracking, current students engagement and help with basic administrative tasks at the OneWorld Now! office.

Arabic and Chinese Language Interns
The Arabic and Chinese Language Interns (one position for each language) will report to the Language Teacher coordinator and assist with tutoring students, composing documents in the respective language, assisting language teachers with classroom projects, and other duties as necessary.

College Prep Intern
The College Prep Intern will help support the annual OneWorld Now! College Conference held on November 5th. Throughout the year they will research listservs and organizations to recruit mentors for high school seniors, specifically pertaining to college prep and transitioning, scholarship opportunities and other resources. Lastly, they will work directly with students on college prep and continuing international education in college.

Get Global Intern
The Get Global Conference is a student-led event taking place each year in May. The Get Global intern will assist OneWorld Now! staff in facilitating the planning of Get Global among OWN! students. Interns will research and secure study abroad and/or international organizations to participate in the Get Global study abroad fair, alongside the conference. Additionally, interns will assist in identifying and contacting local and national sponsors for the campaign. The ideal candidate is an independent self-starter with strong communication skills (writing and public speaking) and demonstrated interests in event planning/marketing and organizing. Candidates should be comfortable communicating with constituents across various industries and public speaking. Some travel in the Seattle area may be required for site visits and meetings. Familiarity with the Seattle Public School District is a plus. The Get Global intern primarily runs from January through May.

Leadership Intern
The Leadership Intern will work closely with the Leadership Manager and assist in coordinating curriculum and activities for the Friday Leadership sessions and two all day retreats in October and February. Candidates should be flexible, initiative takers and comfortable working closely in teams and one-on-one. The ideal candidate will have some experience writing/editing, facilitating groups of young people, and speaking to/facilitating small and large groups of youth.

Photography Intern

The Photography Intern(s) will be responsible for capturing photographs at OneWorld Now! retreats, special events, and leadership classes. Candidates should possess knowledge of Photoshop and/or other photo editing software and be comfortable with digital cameras, writing photo captions and working with large groups of high school students. The Photography Intern will also create, manage, and update the OneWorld Now! photo database. Responsibilities can be expanded depending on intern skills and interests. This position is ideal for a creative, initiative taker.

Student Services and Recruitment Intern

The Student Services Intern will work jointly with the OneWorld Now! Student Services Manager and will be responsible for assisting with student recruitment and retention. Additionally, the SS Intern will help the Student Services Manager manage student files and program concerns. Candidates should be comfortable and enjoy advising students with various backgrounds and public speaking. Some travel in the Seattle area may be required for recruitment, retention and OWN!/community events.

Study Abroad Intern
The Study Abroad Intern will assist the OneWorld Now! Study Abroad Program Manager in organizing and coordinating all correspondence and documents required for student Study Abroad packets. Additionally, the intern will assist in facilitating Study Abroad meetings and organizing/managing correspondence with the OneWorld Now! study abroad partners (AMIDEAST and AFS). The ideal candidate(s) should be a self starter, well organized, good with meeting deadlines, and have a strong interest in travel/international opportunities.

Summer Camp Intern
The OneWorld Now! (OWN!) Arabic and Chinese Language Camp is a three-week long language and cultural immersion program for local high school students. The camp will be held at Seattle University from August 4th–22nd (Monday through Friday, 9am to 3pm). OWN! seeks a Summer Camp Intern who has knowledge of technology (especially iPods and podcasts) and experience performing administrative tasks.

This intern will assist the Summer Camp Program Manager with planning, preparation, and on-site support for the summer camp. The Summer Camp Intern will be responsible for researching and identifying resources for foreign language podcasts, updating iPods daily during the summer camp, and providing administrative support. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, well-organized, good with meeting deadlines, and comfortable with technology. Prior administrative experience is a plus.

This position would start early- to mid-June with a flexible schedule, to be determined by the intern and the Summer Camp Program Manager. Intern must be available to work during the summer camp (weekdays, August 4–22, 2008 from 8am to 5pm). The intern will receive a stipend as compensation.

Website and P.R. Intern
The website and publications intern will assist with updating our website and designing various materials for public relations, including print materials, photos, video, etc. Ideal candidates have existing design experience, excellent organizational skills, computer skills, communication skills, and the ability to manage time efficiently.
