Build diplomatic and economic bridges to China by supporting study abroad
Op Ed by Gary Locke, US Ambassador to China
WE need more Americans studying abroad, particularly in China, and soon.
The U.S. Department of State and the International Institute of Education recently released new numbers on global study abroad in the annual Open Doors Report. Once again, China tops the list of countries sending students to study in the U.S. In the last academic year, the number of Chinese students studying in the U.S. grew by 23 percent to a population of nearly 158,000 students. American enrollments in China grew as well, but far more modestly at just under 2 percent, keeping China the fifth-most-popular destination for Americans studying abroad and taking the total population of Americans studying in China to just under 14,000.

Kristin Hayden on transformative experiences, success, thrival, and what really matters
Podcast on the Wise Routes Blog Project
Wise Routes blogs about their recent interview with OWN Executive Director and Founder Kristin Hayden: "Kristin Hayden is really cool. She started One World Now!, an organization with an exclamation point in its title. Why? Because Kristin is exclamation-pointy about creating a world where young people realize their potential to be change makers with a global consicousness. OWN! works with high school aged youth to provide language, leadership, and study abroad experiences that will pop their bubbles, throw them out of their comfort zones, and open their eyes to new places and cultures they never knew existed."

Coming Together at the Seattle Chinese Gardens
In a very short time, the Seattle Chinese Garden has become a focal point for demonstrating our region's deepening friendship and growing relationship with China, bridging and cultivating our two cultures in a tangible, often happenstance way. A snapshot of one day's visit to the Garden illustrates how interconnected Seattle has become with the Garden with China and with all the links in between. Participants in the OneWorld Now! Chinese Summer Language camp went to the gardens on an exciting field trip to experience Chinese culture.
